Sound exploration

Activity 1

My cat! His name's Marcus. <br><audio controls src='audio/Marcus Pur 1.mp3'></audio> Cats have a lot of sounds they make to humans, this one is what I call his "Request purr / chirp".<br><audio controls src='audio/Marcus Request Purr Chirp.mp3'></audio> Marcus's shaking noise.<br><audio controls src='audio/Marcus Shake 1.mp3'></audio> Marcus, licking me, as a cat does.<br><audio controls src='audio/Marcus Lick 1.mp3'></audio> I did all the other recordings while I was out on errands. This is me taking a drink from my local Shopper's Drugmart fridge section. <br><audio controls src='audio/Yoinking a drink from da shoppers.mp3'></audio> Credit card accepted. <br><audio controls src='audio/Shoppers accept.mp3'></audio> Sounds heard when going through TTC station gates. <br><audio controls src='audio/StAndrewStn_gates.mp3'></audio> TTC chimes. <br><audio controls src='audio/ttc_Chime.mp3'></audio> Platform announcement.<br><audio controls src='audio/StnAnnouncement.mp3'></audio> A train breaking on the TTC. <br><audio controls src='audio/ttc_train_breaking.mp3'></audio> The doors on a train in the TTC closing. <br><audio controls src='audio/ttc_door_close.mp3'></audio> McDonald's card reader accepting my credit card (slightly different from Shopper's).<br><audio controls src='audio/McDonald's Accept.mp3'></audio> Sound of some iced coffee getting shaken around. <br><audio controls src='audio/Iced coffee jangle.mp3'></audio> McDonald's door opening. <br><audio controls src='audio/McDonald’s door openings.mp3'></audio> PRESTO card accepted. <br><audio controls src='audio/PRESTO_accept.mp3'></audio> PRESTO card denied. <br><audio controls src='audio/PRESTO deny.mp3'></audio> Entering a streetcar. <br><audio controls src='audio/Streetcar_enter.mp3'></audio> Exiting a streetcar. <br><audio controls src='audio/Streetcar Exit.mp3'></audio> Going up/down the escelator at St. Andrew's station. <br><audio controls src='audio/Escalator St. Andrew TTC.mp3'></audio> Opening my mailbox. <br><audio controls src='audio/Mail box open.mp3'></audio> Closing my mailbox. <br><audio controls src='audio/Mail box close.mp3'></audio> Sounds from my washing machine. <br><audio controls src='audio/Washing machine noises.mp3'></audio> Sounds from my drying machine. <br><audio controls src='audio/Drying noises.mp3'></audio> My keys jangling around. <br><audio controls src='audio/Keys Jangling.mp3'></audio> My glasses opening and closing. <br><audio controls src='audio/Glasses closing.mp3'></audio>

Activity 2

Starting small, modifying the visuals in the tutorial examples. More visual modification. Combining two tutorial examples into one, just to see what would happen. Tried to add a fill to the waveforms, didn't turn out great. Using the manual sliders instead of mouse position, as I found it easier to handle. Modifying the code of the tutorial, here I'm using Clair de Lune as the song for analysis. More modifying the visuals, seeing what works and what doesn't. A chart I found that correlated the Midi values to their respective note values. Using the data from the previously mentioned chart, having a note label pop-up when a note is played. A mockup of one idea I had, with a waveform in the background and note labels from low-frequency to high-frequency that would light up. Image assets for once concept, where images would stretch and squish based on their assigned element. This little dragon would've been squishing and stretching based on frequency. This lil' guy would've been modified based on amplitude. I also had the idea for an image that would change itself based on if a song was playing or not. This would've been for "Music ON" This would've been for "Music OFF" This was another idea I had, where this record graphic would've been spinning as sound was played. This is a mockup of a secondary idea I had, where there were bars placed on the same X-axis. A mockup of the core concept I had. This is what I had in mind, though the code had... other ideas. Couldn't figure out why, but the image kept on stretching even before any music played. Once music did play, the sketch just slowed my computer down and kept drawing the image on top of itself over and over. Snippet of my code, specifically showing the part that would be modifying the image dimensions. Since my image modification code didn't really work, I just ended up playing around with the tutorials some more. I tried to do some more with at least the indicating image for music playing, to no luck. An imperfect mockup, showing the amplitude as bars and frequency as a wave in the background. Similar to previous, though combined with the note label visualizer.
